Two Chinese in four killed in Pakistan dam shuttering collapse


Islamabad, July 3 (IANS): Two Chinese engineers and two Pakistani nationals were killed as the shuttering of the Tarbela Dam collapsed in Pakistan's Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Sunday.

The shuttering collapsed during construction work on the Tarbela Dam extension project, a local police official said.

Four other people, including two Chinese nationals, were injured during the accident. The dam built on the Indus river is the largest earth filled dam in the world and fifth largest by structural volume.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif conveyed his condolences to the families of the Chinese engineers who lost their lives, Radio Pakistan reported.

The prime minister directed the authorities to make quick arrangements to send the bodies of the deceased Chinese engineers to their home country and ensure the well-being and safety of Chinese engineers working on the project.
