Chamarajanagar, Jul 4: Following collapse of coconut prices, under support prices scheme, the coconuts are being bought from Saturday,July 2 said minister of Co-operation and sugar H S Mahadevaprasad.

“Peeled coconuts are being bought is Chamarajanagara, Udupi, Hassan, Uttar Kannada and Shivamogga for support price. The purchase centers are opened in the APMC premises of each district. The price is fixed at Rs 1,600 per quintal. In a meeting of cabinet subcommittee, it was initially decided to buy them in Chamarajanagar. However after demands that those should be bought in other districts also, the process is started in other five districts too”, he said.

“Karnataka state cooperative marketing authority is the agency. Rs one crore each are released in each district for the purpose. The farmers should submit applications approved by the department of horticulture. The sale proceeds will be credited directly to the accounts of farmers”, he said.
