Mangaluru, Jul 6: Commemorating the birthday of the late bishop Dr C D Jathanna, Karnataka Christian Education Society observed KACES Day at the KTC Bishop Jathanna auditorium, KACES campus here on Tuesday July 5.
Padmashree, Dr Manmohan Attavar, chairman, Indo-American Seeds (India) Pvt Ltd inaugurated the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Dr L C Soans, eminent botanist and ecologist, recalled the good library at KACES. He said, "This institution has valuable material. It is an interactive window with the outside world. The library is a treasure chest of information."
Speaking about Bishop Jathanna, he said, "Bishop Jathanna is a visionary and a good administrator. He was responsible for this much development in the institute."
Dr Sushil Jathanna, director of Global Multispeciality Hospital, in the city and son of late bishop Jathanna, said, "It is a great privilege to have two great eminent personalities from an agricultural background here. These days we constantly think of IT solutions, technology, hotel services, hospitality services, but forgot that the real heart of India is in agriculture."
He also lauded Dr Manmohan Attavar for his good heart in helping out the institute with donations.
He also recalled how Jathanna struggled hard to study during those hard times without electricity under street light. Recalling Jathanna's words, Dr Sushil Jathanna said, "Education is the only way to root out poverty and focus on education, especially for the girl child. We have to be self sufficient and self sustaining."
Dr Honey Cabral, principal of KTC speaking on the occasion said, "We are satisfied with our virtuous service to society." He also recalled his days with Jathanna.
On behalf of KACES, Padmashree Dr Manmohan Attavar, Dr Livingston C Soans and Dr Sushil Jathanna were honoured.
Dr Rohinaksha was conferred a PhD degree.
The dignitaries also honored the ROl Rock Band artiste with a shawl and a plaque.
Institutional toppers Frenny Israel and Manish Kumar were also honored on the occasion.
Dr F Anilkumar treasurer of KACES welcomed the guests. Sandeep Theophil PRO of KACES, Chethan R, principal of HTTI and others were present.
