Mangaluru, Jul 8: The newly appointed chief whip of Karnataka Legislative council, MLC Ivan D'Souza conducted a press meet here at his office in city on July 7.

Addressing media persons Ivan D'Souza assured to work effectively and efficiently in the new given position and said "Since now I am part of the government, I cannot ask more questions in the council as I used to ask previously as MLC. In the last two years, I have actively participated and asked questions in the council with attaining 100 percent attendance in the council. Since I am a lawyer by profession, my interest lies more in parliamentary affairs. I am happy to be appointed as the chief whip of legislative council. I thank chief minister, ministers, all MLA and MLC's of my party for their support in giving me this responsibility."

"I will give my best in forming good and effective legislations by ensuring that all the members of the council attend the council and actively participate in the debates. My major objective is to get a big drinking water project for the district so that there will be no water shortage in the district. I have been working on A G Kodgi report for the same." Ivan added.

"There has been more rain this time than expected which has resulted in some natural calamities. I have directed the deputy commissioner to take all necessary precautions and provide timely help in case such incidents are reported. There are lot of potholes on national highways and on some of the cities tar roads. So I have urged the officials to take necessary steps and repair these roads. Sea erosion has been a very big problem and in Ullal and work worth Rs 200 crore is being undertaken to provide permanent solution." Ivan said.

Commenting on central government's ministry reshuffle, he said "People of our state have elected about 17 parliamentarians. I had expected good portfolios for the state in the context of development. But the reshuffle was disappointing, good portfolios like railways and law have been taken back. BJP leaders in the state are fighting internally for the coming 2018 state elections, which has resulted in disappointment in getting good ministerial portfolios for the state."
