Suicide by mother-child duo - complaint accuses mother-in-law

Puttur, Jul 12: Relating to an incident in which a lady named Vedavathi had ended her life and that of her child by jumping into a pond late night on Saturday July 9, a complaint, which accuses Vedavathi's mother-in-law as having been responsible for the suicides, stands filed.

Vedavathi (26), wife of Sathish Poojary from Kuremajalu in Mundur village in the taluk had jumped into a pond along with her two-year-old son, Manish. Preliminary investigation suggested that she had been fed up with life, and as such, chose to commit suicide.

On Sunday July 10 night, Shreemathi, wife of maternal uncle of Vedavathi, complained to the police, accusing Prema, Vedavathi's mother-in-law, of abetting the said suicide. She said that Prema often fought with Vedavathji, and that frurstrated at this never ending routine, Vedavathi had chosen to kill herself and her kid.

Policemen of rural station here have registered the complaint. They are investigating the veracity of the allegation made in the complaint.
