Daijiworld Media Network - Goa (MB)

Panaji / New Delhi, Nov 18: Goa MP Shantaram Naik has said that Congress should contest all the State Assembly elections , throughout the country, on its own without entering into coalition with any party.

Naik, who was participating in the discussion on the political resolution moved by working committee member and union external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee at the AICC Session held at New Delhi on Monday  said that Congress can restrict coalitions to national politics and make certain sacrifices with respect to the Lok Sabha seats by ceding  them to the coalition partners, but in States if Congress proposes to rebuilt its party under the dynamic leadership of Rahul Gandhi then there should be no sacrifices at the State levels.

Naik said as a result there can be setbacks in some states but Congress flag will fly in every booth and presence of Congress workers will also be intact on every booth.

Naik, who was being listened to in rapt attention during his speech by party president Sonia Gandhi, further said that Congress constitution should be amended to add a Chapter on the governance of coalition governments in order to fix responsibilities and duties of coalition partners.

Naik also said that in Congress-ruled States,  major policy and legislative issues must be discussed first in the Pradesh Congress Committees before the governments enact legislations and declare policy statements. Only in matters where there are time constraints should the Congress governments proceed to take decisions without consulting party forums.

Naik said that Rahul Gandhi should strive to bring back to the Congress organization and Congresspersons the same respectability which they enjoyed when the membership of Congress was at 4 annas per head.

Members from Goa who attended the session included  GPCC president Francisco Sardinha, chief minister Digamber Kamat, GPCC's former president Luizinho Faleiro, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, GPCC vice president Moti Desai, general secretaries Altinho Gomes, DrUlhas Parab, secretaries Gurudas Natekar, Shanker Kirlpalker and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president Sankalp Amonkar.
