Mangaluru, Jul 13: In an alleged attempt-to-murder, a young man was attacked by a group of three in broad daylight at Ullal near here on Wednesday July 13.
Kamaluddin (25), who works at a beef stall, was attacked at Mastikatte.
It is said that Arfan, Mitha Nisar and Jafar barged into the beef stall and attacked Kamaluddin with knives, rods and soda bottles.
The accused escaped from the spot soon after the attack.
A badly injured Kamaluddin was rushed to a private hospital in Thokkottu.
It is said that about a month ago during Ramadan, the same gang along with one Mukhtar had forcibly entered Kamaluddin's stall and assaulted him, and robbed Rs 12,000. Kamaluddin had then lodged a complaint in Ullal police station.
The police who took up the investigation arrested Mukhtar, who is still in jail. The other three who were angry over Mukhtar's arrest repeatedly threatened Kamaluddin, demanding that he withdraw his complaint, sources said.
Moreover, Arfan's father Jaldi Siddique also allegedly called up Kamaluddin and told him, "I am Ullal's don. You will not be able to do anything. If you do not withdraw the complaint, you will be dead in two days." Kamaluddin lodged an oral complaint regarding the threat.
As Kamaluddin did not take back the complaints, the three attacked him on Wednesday.
It is learnt that Siddique and the group of three also came to the hospital where Kamaluddin has been admitted. The locals who saw them came forward to catch hold of Siddique, but he took to his heels. The locals chased him for nearly a kilometre and finally managed to nab him. He was then handed over to the police.
Siddique is said to be involved in ganja peddling and has reportedly formed a gang of youngsters including his son to sell ganja to school and college students in Ullal. Kamaluddin's friends have alleged that because of Siddique, peace has been repeatedly disrupted in Ullal.
Ullal police have registered a case.
