Ballari, Jul 15: After Bengaluru-based Animal Welfare Board activists tipped the district police, policemen raided an unauthorized slaughterhouse located on Nadavi Road in Tekkalakote village here on Thursday July 14. They could rescue 37 bovine animals. However it is learnt that the slaughterhouse owner had shifted about 20 cattle elsewhere.

Acting on the basis of the complaint filed by the said board, deputy superintendent of police, T V Suresh, led a police team and raided the slaughterhouse at around 5 am on Thursday.

It is said that the above slaughterhouse was in operation since the last 15 years, and similar slaughterhouses have been functioning in the region since long. Before the raid, there were over 50 animals at a single spot, but nearly 20 were sent away just before the raid, it is gathered.

The policemen said that 80 percent of the animals comprised of cows. District superintendent of police, R Chetan, said that the raid was conducted on the basis of the information provided by animal welfare board activists. He said that case has been registered against nine accused persons, and the cattle were rescued.
