Bengaluru, Jul 19: An incident in which an advocate allegedly tried to rape a woman at his office on her visit there on Cunningham Road here came to light with inordinate delay.

As per the report, the police registered first information report (FIR) after three days of delivering the complaint. The woman, residing at R T Nagar in the city, had complained to high grounds police station that the advocate in question, Raveendra Kamath, attempted to rape her when she visited his office on Friday July 15 afternoon. The 40-year-old lady stated that as soon as she entered the office in connection with a court case, he locked the door from inside and tried to rape her. She also claimed she struggled and somehow escaped from him.

As per information, the police hesitated to register the FIR as the complaint was made against a well-known figure. It is said that the police got the woman to write the complaint twice. They did not register FIR by claiming that their printer was not working properly. They sent her away, asking her to come back the next day to collect the copy of the FIR. The police also reportedly told her that they needed to obtain permission from higher ups before registering the complaint.

It is claimed that the police, instead of registering the FIR, interrogated the complainant twice. They also are said to have questioned her about going to the advocate's office in his company instead of making inquiries with the accused. After the woman expressed her willingness to complain to the Woman's Commission, the police relented and registered the complaint, it is gathered.
