Arrested officer B K Bansal's wife, daughter commit suicide

New Delhi, Jul 19 (PTI): The wife and daughter of Director General of Corporate Affairs B K Bansal, who was arrested by the CBI two days ago for alleged bribery, committed suicide today in their apartment in east Delhi, police said.

Bansal's wife Satyabala (57) and daughter Neha (27) left separate suicide notes, saying nobody was responsible for their death, police said.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern range) Satish Golcha said the police received a call around 1.30 pm following which teams were rushed to the spot.

"Two separate suicide notes have been recovered. Prima facie there seems to be no foul play. However, investigations are being carried out and bodies have been sent for postmortem," he said.

Bansal, an additional secretary-rank officer in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, was arrested by CBI on July 17 for allegedly accepting bribe from a prominent pharmaceutical company.

CBI had carried out searches at eight locations in connection with the case during which the agency had claimed to have made cash recoveries.

According to the CBI, Bansal was arrested while receiving Rs nine lakh of the Rs 20 lakh promised as bribe.

It is reported in the Hindu News paper today that Elder Pharmaceutical company collected about RS.150 crores from about 24,000 people who have invested funds in Fixed Deposit Scheme. However Money was allegedly diverted to buy shares etc. from other companies. It is not very clear whether the matured amount has been refunded to the FD holders. I also understand that lately many companies who have accepted FDs have not been refunded to the investors on maturity. Readers please think twice before investing funds in Companies against their FD schemes. I also fail to understand as to why the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has failed miserably to take strict action on defaulting companies to refund the FD amount to the Investors in time.

Bureaucrats same as in congress. They do not change bribery and corruption. Congress didn't bother about eliminating it so it is continuing. Now government is taking action.

Unfortunate incident, one should develop guts to face society under any circumstances like politicians. Why people are getting so sensitive emotional and coward and taking extreme step. We have to learn lessons from politicians, how they shrug off allegations if true or not and carry their work as normal.
