Abhijith alias Abhiram is pursuing a degree course in a private college at Bengaluru. He is said to be an associate of Praveen Khandya, an activist of pro-Hindu organizations. The police claim that Abhijith had played a major role in the abduction of Tejas Gowda, a financier from the town, which had culminated in the suicide of the DySP.
Abhijith had come in contact with Naveen Shetty. Naveen Shetty is lying low now. As per the plan hatched by Khandya, Abhijith had come to Chikkamagaluru, abducted Tejas Gowda along with some others and taken him to Bengaluru, it is gathered. After the incident hogged limelight, Abhijith had gone missing.
Police had conducted a raid on a farm in Chikkolale village in the district and arrested 24 persons who were gambling there with playing cards. Tejas Gowda was one among those arrested from the spot. Abhijith had offered bail for the release of Tejas Gowda, and then kidnapped him with some of his associates and taken him to Bengaluru. This was done as per a plan hatched by Khandya, police said.
