Moodbidri: Man smuggling timber from reserve forest held

Moodbidri, Jul 22: Forest officials from the town took into custody a person who had illegally uprooted a tree from the reserve forest located within Hosabettu gram panchayat limits and was trying to transport it. He was later handed over to the police.

On being produced in the court here, the court remanded him to judicial custody.

The accused happens to be Satish Hegde hailing from Karkala taluk, and currently residing at Bogrugudde in Hosabettu gram panchayat limits. He was trying to transport a jungle jackfruit tree after cutting it down, when the police led by local deputy range forest officer, Prakash Shetty, nabbed him in an operation. The operation was conducted under the direction of range forest officer, G D Dinesh.
