Court hands down 10 years RI for robbery attempt

Mangaluru, Jul 23: The third additional district and sessions court here has found two persons accused of making robbery attempt on a lady returning home after attending Lord Bahubali Mastakabhisheka at Venoor, guilty.

After conducting hearing, the court found Gadag Somanna and Gadag Bhagya Bhajantri guilty of the offence listed out in the charge sheet. They have been ordered to undergo ten years of rigorous imprisonment apart from paying fine of Rs 5,000. In case of failure to pay fine, they will have to remain in jail for five more months.

Five other accused were acquitted for want of proper evidence. One of the accused, Gadag Sheena, is absconding and had stayed away from the hearings.

Chandravathi from Sudalayi village was returning home at around 10 pm on February 5, 2012 after participating in Mahamastakabhisheka at Venoor, when a gang of eight unknown persons intercepted her on the banks of Kalimar rivulet. They tried to rob the lady and snatched away the vanity bag she held. They also tried to snatch away the Karimani chain around Chandravathi's neck. When the lady raised an alarm, the accused ran away with the vanity bag. The vanity bag had Rs 10,000 in cash, a mobile phone and sim card. The woman had filed a complaint at Venoor station.

The policemen, who had undertaken investigation, had succeeded in arresting eight accused from near KSRTC bus stand at Dharmasthala after eight days of the crime.

    Peculiar ways of meting out sentences.
    This case is of robbery only and sentenced to 10 Years of RI..!!!

    In rape cases where a lady\girl is subjected such trauma of sexual abuse which may be haunting her life time, most of the sentences are of 3 years of imprisonment!!!

    Really difficult to understand.
    In Kundapura one clerk stole Rs.1000 and was handed down 11 years of imprisonment!!!

    They should remove the "Bandana" from the statue across the eyes with the scale dangling from one hand ..to tell people justice is given with eyes wide open and not blindly....
