Agency report
Mumbai, Nov 23: A businessman from Orissa who was spurned by a model he was in love with killed her mother and uncle before shooting himself early on Friday at Andheri in northwest Mumbai.
Oshiwara police station senior inspector Kiran Sonawane said the 22-year-old businessman, Avinash Bhupen Patnaik, was in love with upcoming model Moon Dass. They first met when Moon had gone to Orissa to perform at a New Year party this year and later started seeing each other.
"The affair lasted till August, after which Moon broke off relations with Avinash but he refused to back off," Sonawane told IANS.
Around 11.30 pm on Thursday, Avinash barged into Moon's flat at the Yamuna Nagar locality in Andheri West. He was armed with a country-made pistol and had gone with the intention of killing Moon, the police said.
However, Moon was not at home. Avinash waited for some time but she did not return. In a fit of rage, he then shot Moon's mother Kannan and uncle Vikas Chandra Sarkar, Sonawane said.
Shortly afterwards, Moon and her friend -- identified only as Sharma - reached the flat and saw Avinash. Sensing danger, Sharma pulled the door and locked it from outside, trapping Avinash inside.
They rushed to Oshiwara police station to lodge a complaint. When they arrived with a police team and opened the door, they realised Avinash had shot himself. He was found dead in a pool of blood, with the bodies of his two victims lying nearby.
