Daijiworld Media Network - Hassan (SP)

Hassan, Jul 24: Vijaya, assistant commissioner (AC) here, who had attempted suicide recently, said in her statement to the police that she was pushed to the corner and forced to decide on ending her life because of harassment by Congress leader, Devaraja Gowda.

She gave this statement in pursuance of a case registered against her for suicide attempt under Indian Penal Code section 309 at K R Puram police station here. Her statement was recorded by police officers in the presence of Dr Prema who is treating her.

"After I secured stay order against my transfer order from Karnataka Administrative Tribunal and took over charge as subdivisional officer here, Hassan zilla panchayat KDP member, Devaraje Gowda, gave statements to the media, duly making corruption allegations on me. This hurt me a lot.  I had held consultation with assistant superintendent of police, Shobharani, and inspector, Shivakumar, about the desirability of filing defamation case against him.  My friends and relatives repeatedly questioned me about corruption allegations. Frustrated by  this development, I tried to commit suicide at around 5 pm on July 21 by using a sari," she explained.

Vijaya was discharged from hospital on the evening of Saturday.  Before that, district in-charge minister, A Manju, visited her in the hospital and collected information about her health condition.
