10 killed in Iraq suicide bombing

Baghdad, Jul 25 (IANS): At least 10 people were killed and 12 injured on Monday in a suicide car bomb attack in Iraq's Diyala province, officials said.

The attack took place when a suicide bomber drove his vehicle loaded with explosives into a crowded checkpoint in Khalis town, Xinhau news agency reported.

The blast set on fire several vehicles and damaged many others. The death toll could rise as many were critically injured.

The attack follows a suicide bombing in Baghdad by the Islamic State group which killed 21 people and injured 35 others.

Iraq has been hit by a new wave of violence since the IS took control of parts of the country's northern and western regions in June 2014.
