New Delhi, Jul 26 (IANS): In remembrance of valiant soldiers on the 17th Kargil Vijay Diwas Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said "the country will never forget the fearlessness with which they gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders."

In a series of tweets he also lauded the firmness demonstrated by the then political leadership (NDA-led government) which ensured victory in Kargil.

"We recall with pride, the firmness demonstrated by India's political leadership in 1999, which ensured a decisive victory in Kargil. India will never forget the fearlessness with which our courageous soldiers gave a befitting and unforgettable reply to the intruders," tweeted Modi.

"On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I bow to every valiant soldier who fought for India till the very last breath. Their heroic sacrifices inspire us," he further tweeted.

On July 26, 1999, India successfully retook the high outposts that were lost to Pakistani intruders to end the Kargil war.
