28-year-old Johnson D’Souza from Moodubelle dies in bike accident

Udupi, Aug 3: A young man from Moodubelle lost his life as a consequence of accident between a bike and a tipper that took place in the morning of Tuesday, August 2, at Ganapanakatte near Moodubelle.

Johnson D’Souza (28), son of Jerald and Margaret from Moodubelle, is the person deceased.

As per details, Johnson was travelling on his bike when the tipper hit him in the morning of August 2. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Manipal after he sustained serious injuries in the accident. He breathed his last in the night, after not responding to treatment.

Johnson was working in Dubai and had come in leave on July 31. He is survived by parents and three siblings.

Shirva police have registered a case.

    RIP Johnson.
    I had earlier suggested separate lanes / roads for two wheelers but it fell on deaf ears.
    I urge all our Engineering students to work on the following:
    1. Develop a Bike which will not start unless rider wears helmet.
    2. Design a shield around the rider with air bags.
    In USA I have seen Harley Davidson bikes with armor protection speeding with cars at 100 mph.
    I can share these inputs once I return to India ...

    I just hate the way Indian drivers drive, I hate the way they are trained to drive, I hate the way authorities test them for driver's license,

    No point in blaming the Government or Administration or Roads or external factors when we ourselves do not consider safety as priority. How many of us wear helmets while riding two wheelers? In most of the cases, its the head injury that proves to be fatal.

    Guys, spread the awareness of the need to wear helmets. We tend to be careless while driving in the near empty roads of Mangalore/Udupi and hence more important it becomes to make safety as our prime priority.

    I see the comments and condolences for this young boy who met with an accident and feel sad to write that people only write on this social media only,but in reality no individual will come forward to help the one who meet with accident. Actually i was travelling with my wife and my mother in law towards udupi via palli road to collect medicines for my children and we were scheduled to fly to DXB on the 3 Aug 2016.I came across this accident immediate after few seconds.I saw a group of people just surrounding the Johnson who was lying in the pool of blood on the side of the road,to my surprise none of them rendered their help.Just shouting and shouting. My wife who is a nurse, immediately shgave him chest compression in order to give him oxygen flow.But nobody came forward instead were peeping into my wife's chest when she was pumping the victims chest, how could a per get those thought. We immediately put him in my Scorpio vehicle and rushed him to Manipal KMC emergency unit in without wasting a single second. The almighty gave me the strength and courage to drive the vehicle in such a way that i cannot imagine. But my concern is why do people behave like this ? there were Catholics, Hindus and even other religion people but for no use.Even we called 108 for ambulance but no use at all, when the call center person could get the details of the accident we had reached the KMC. But i came through another experience, as soon as we reached kmc i just parked the car and shouted for help but the response was very bad.What i want to point out is that if at all immediate help was given to Johnson could have been saved, because the blood loss and the delay in reaching him to the hospital could have really saved his life.My request to people please try to help the accident victim at any condition because you never know when and where you may come across.My heartfelt condolence to the family of Johnson to overcome the loss.And may the departed soul RIP.

    I do agree with you, that people will surround the accident victim, will take mobile videos to circulate but no help will be given.

    Few months/years back, when oil tanker got fire and few have died, the youngsters who were around, some of them are clicking videos from their mobile while the victims were shouting for help. Really disgusting.

    Hospital staff has lost the passion to serve people as the nurses, staff have taken profession to earn money but not as primary objective to save people.

    Sir, I have no words...I feel terrible for your experience. But I admire you and your wife for your bravery.
    My humble opinion is Daiji can open a forum to start a debate/dialogue to discuss road safety and how to help in case of an accident. I think people in general need educated and rewarded. We should start nominating the brave and helpful for an award. I want an opinion on this topic.

    What people have to realize is that when you allow/facilitate yourself or your loved ones to use two wheelers increases the probability of you/them having accident to a considerable margin. I myself at every opportunity try to discourage anyone from buying/using two wheeler. I always tell them either buy a four-wheeler or use public transport. whatever may be the benefits of owning Two-wheeler maybe over others, it comes with considerable risk.

    Indian traffic laws and followers are so bad, roads are so bad, weather conditions in rainy season so awful, coupled with driving a two wheeler with winds passing by, it is same sense of feelings how calfs run or dance around, taking a reckless step.

    Isnt that same cause for Rakesh Siddaramaiah's death from injury to pancreas owing to accident in 2011.

    It is indeed a sad note in the lives and history of the DSouza family. A young and promising boy meets with a fatal accident.

    It is yet to be seen whether it was the fault of tipper or that of the bike driver. Whatever it is serious police investigations need to be done and action taken in case the fault is of the tipper driver.
