Taliban key commander killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Aug 4 (IANS): A key Taliban commander and four of his bodyguards were killed in Afghanistan's Kunduz province, the provincial police said on Thursday.

"Taliban key commander Mullah Khairullah along with four of his bodyguards were killed after a drone struck their hideout in Qala-e-Zal district late Wednesday night," a senior police officer told Xinhua news agency.

Khairullah served as a commander since the past couple of years and his death could prove a major blow to the Taliban fighters in Kunduz and the neighbouring Takhar and Baghlan provinces, the official added.
