Mangalore, Nov 28: Endolite India Limited will soon be introducing an artificial limb centre, similar to the one at Aligarh limb centre, in the city. As a redult people who are now impaired due to loss of limbs in case of accidents or any other reason can find some relief at this centre, where they will be fitted with artificial limbs.
This limb centre will be opened on World Disabled day on December 3, 2007, informed Gautham Jain, the central clinical manager of the Endolite Company in the official press release. According to the release various artificial limbs including knee joints, hands, ears, fingers, toes and an electric hand will be available at the centre. These have the added advantage of operating according to the needs of the person wearing it, affirms the release.
The release further states that experts trained in U.S. and U.K. have been carrying out designing of the artificial limbs in 13 Centre’s of the company in India. The company will be undertaking cosmetic restoration of ears, hands and nose. All these prostheses are made out of silicon and will have no side effects on the person wearing them. The end result would ensure that the artificial limb looks similar to that of a natural limb. Moreover once these silicon limbs are fitted people need not wear suspension belts to fasten them to the body as it is self-fitting, clarifies Jain.
In addition, to these features some artificial limbs come will have modular shock absorbers and dampners giving a natural feeling to the people wearing them. The limbs would be customized suiting to the needs of the people as per their use and the activities they indulge in.
