Mangalore Nov 29: The Gavamayana Yaga reception committee president and MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik informed here on Tuesday, Nov 27 that a ‘Dharma Jyoti Rathyatra’ would be organized from Nov 29 to Dec 9. This is held as part of ‘Southramani Gavamayana Yaga’ programme.
Speaking to media persons here he said that the ‘Rathyatra’ would originate from Shri Jnanashakti Subramanya temple in Pavanje located on the outskirts of the city, from Nov 29 and would travel to Udupi, DK and Kasargoad districts.
According to Karnik the purpose behind organizing this is to create awareness about the Yaga which would be conducted at the Shri Jnanashakti Subramanya temple in Pavanje from Dec. 9 to 16, he informed.
The inaugural ceremony of the ‘Rathyatra’ would be done by Gurupura Jangama Math pontiff Shivaprakash Swamiji and the yatra would conclude at Pavanje temple on Nov 12 at 2.30 pm, he informed further.
Going back in time Karnik quoting the Yajurveda said that Southramani Gavamayana Yaga was first performed by Sage Vasishta for the benevolent king Harishchandra. The main objective behind this yaga is to bring about overall development and prosperity of people and the nation, he added.
Present on the occasion were the yaga committee president Nalin Kumar Kateel, Rathyatra committee president G Anand and secretary Vinay L Shetty.
