Udupi, Aug 10: In a fresh development in the sensational Bhaskar Shetty murder case, the police have arrested accused Niranjan Bhat's father and his companion.
Srinivas Bhat, father of Niranjan, and Raghavendra, who drove Niranjan's car and often accompanied him, were arrested on Wednesday August 10 on charges of destroying evidence. Raghavendra had been taken into custody earlier, and officially arrested on Wednesday.
It is learnt that Raghavendra, who supposedly was not aware of Niranjan's alleged act of burning Bhaskar's body, was present when the latter threw the ashes and other materials used in the crime into the river. When Raghavendra questioned Niranjan about it, the latter reportedly replied that he was throwing 'chicken bones' into the water.
Srinivas, on the other hand, allegedly helped Niranjan by cleaning up the 'homa kunda' and replacing the bricks after the body had been burnt.
Meanwhile, the police took Bhaskar's wife Rajeshwari and son Navaneeth to Karkala for identification of crime scene. During the search for the remains of Bhaskar's body, the police found some bones in the river at Palli. The bones have been sent to the forensic lab for examination, sources said.
The locals in Palli who are unhappy with the police investigation are reportedly planning a protest, it is learnt.
