Accident victim bleeds to death on Delhi road, gets robbed of mobile phone

New Delhi, Aug 11 (HT): A 40-year-old e-rickshaw driver was killed on Wednesday morning after being hit by a speeding tempo in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar. Police said the victim, identified as Matibool, a resident of West Bengal, lay bleeding on the road for close to 90 minutes before they reached the spot. No one had come to his aid in the meantime.

CCTV footage showed that a rickshaw-puller, in fact, stopped near the bleeding Matibool and made away with his mobile phone that was lying nearby.

A police officer said that they had obtained the footage of the incident and were examining it.

The accident took place around 5:30am but was reported only around 7am. A police team reached the spot and rushed Matibool to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared him brought dead, stating that he had died due to excessive bleeding.

Police later found some documents in Matibool’s pocket that helped in ascertaining his identity.

He apparently drove an e-rickshaw during the day and worked as a security guard in Subhash Nagar at night.

“We contacted his colleagues at the company where he worked as a guard. They told us that Matibool had completed his night shift and left for home around 5am,” said an officer.
Matibool was hit by a tempo from behind while on his way home, the officer said.

“The tempo driver got off his vehicle immediately to take a look at the injured man. But instead of taking him to a hospital, he got back into his tempo and drove away.”

Most people who might have seen Matibool on the road may have ignored him for a drunk, the officer added.

“We have formed a team to identify the killer tempo driver and arrest him. Efforts are also on to identify the rickshaw puller who took away Matibool’s mobile phone,” the officer said.

A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered.

We have to educate the people by doing time to time similar mock drill in major cities. Then only we can bring some change in people's attitude. Otherwise, nobody is going to help dieing accident victim. Most of the time people try to rob the victim. Even in train/bus accidents people try to rob the people. Moreover, people are scared to take the victim to the hospital due to fear of the police.

There is no dearth of humanity in our country. sometimes, people have saved others even without caring their own life.

However, when the question of accident, people are hesitant due to a) police harassment b) Retention in the hospital and c) later going from office to office whenever called.

This year, Supreme Court has given nod for Good Samaritan act, where the helping person is not harassed. This fact should have been properly explained and acted upon by authorities.

@santan - actually the rule should be such that the person who committed accident and has not injured should take a lead for taking injured to hospital. Such drivers should not be punished under law. Law should be like that. Next day you will see how dramatic changes happen in our society.
Once the uninjured people in the big vehicles takes the leadership then the rest of the public joins hand automatically. People should not be given harassment or jail. What say? Lawmakers should look into that...

Most of the people in this comment section bringing innocent cows and blaming. Looks like most people have got cow breakfast.

Simple solution is every 2 years driving license should be renewed after passing basic written test. For failed people do not allow to drive. Please stop chalta hai attitude.

@Sri, You mean to say that passing a written test obligates them to help the accident victims? Its just matter of our concern towards the person in need of our help. Its not the case of some general knowledge. How come you always have got weird solutions to the problems which no one else can think of.

    Rakesh,

Which congress member educated you until you came to the ability of typing the comment you did ? None - surely ? Rather, its your parents who raised you, educated you and ensured that you are at behaviour that is socially accepted - right ? Well, all are not fortunate enough to have parents like you or me, therefore, crime is rising in the country - for not any other reason !

Similarly, any Indian's behaviour does not depend on the government neither ruling nor in the opposition.

Please make use of your education, do not babble just because you have limbs obeying your desire !
