Mangalore, Nov 30: ‘Karmika Jagruthi Dina’ ( Labourers' awareness day) will be observed jointly by DK district Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and DK district Congress Labour Union under the leadership of Rakesh Malli, president, INTUC, announced Sadashiva Shetty of INTUC at the press conference here on Thursday November 29.
The function will be held on Saturday December 1 at Javaharalal Nehru Centenary auditorium, Panambur, he added.
The function will be inaugurated by Veerappa Moily, former CM who will speak on labour sensitive issues. The programme will be presided over by NM Adyantaya, president, state INTUC.
Krishna Bhaire Gowda, president, state Youth Congress, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLA, Manjunath Bhandary, president, state Youth Congress, Ullal MLA UT Kahadar and others will be present on the occasion, he added.
The primary focus of the celebration is to strengthen Congress from the root level, and protect the interest of labourers from adverse effects of the globalization and to prepare the labourers to fight the globalization, he added.
It has been long standing demand that Rakesh Malli should be given a chance to contest in the forthcoming polls from Suratkal constituency, since he could better serve the ‘blue collar class’ effectively, he detailed.
