4 killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Aug 11 (IANS): At least four persons were killed and three others injured in firing which followed a suicide bombing in Afghanistan's Herat province on Thursday, police said.

"A terrorist detonated his explosives-laden vehicle next to a national army base in Shindand district which, followed by gunshots, has so far claimed four lives and injured three others," Xinhua news agency quoted police spokesman Sayed Ahmad Mohammadi as saying.

The firefight between the attackers and the security forces continued, the official said.

On Wednesday, hundreds of Taliban militants launched a massive offensive in the country's Baghlan province, storming its Dahna-e-Ghori district where two Taliban militants were killed and several others injured in the fighting between the militants and government forces.
