Russia seeks explanation from Rio organisers about national flag desecration

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 13 (IANS): The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has sought an explanation from the organisers about the reported desecration of a Russian national flag in the Olympics Village.

Lev Savin, one of the Russian delegation's executives, said on Friday they were not pleased with the development and have spoken to the Olympics organisers about it, reports Tass.

Russian synchronised swimmer Alexandra Patskevich earlier wrote in her social media platform Instagram profile that she and her teammates first discovered in their room that unidentified persons had torn down the Russian national flag, tarnishing it.

The flag later disappeared from their room.

"We know about the situation only from the account of the athlete," Savin said on Friday.

"We have already turned to the organisers with the request to investigate the incident and eventually settle it."
