Mandya, Aug 16: District in-charge minister, D K Shivakumar, who was present at the independence day stage at Vishweshwariaah stadium here on Monday August 15, ordered suspension of a dance progremme being presented by school children abruptly on Monday August 15.
In the programme, presented by 250 children of a private school, children were dancing to the tune of patriotic Kannada song which exemplified the necessity to stay loyal to one's motherland even in the face of death. The children performing the dance had in their hands photographs of two deputy superintendents of police, M K Ganapati and Kallappa Handibag, who committed suicide recently, and also of IAS officer, D K Ravi, who died under mysterious circumstances.
The minister turned livid at this and ordered the dance to be stopped forthwith. He also took the deputy director of public instruction of the district to task.
The students, who were hoping to get accolades from the minister for their wonderful choreography and timing, instead got stick from him.
The suicides of the three officers had created political turmoil in the state, with the state Congress government coming under attack for not safeguarding honest officers.
