Moodbidri: 30,000 people participate in Independence Day celebrations at Alva's

Moodbidri, Aug 16: 30,000 people including 24,000 students of Alva's group of educational institutions participated in the Independence Day celeberations organized in Vanajakshi K Sripati Bhat open air theatre at Puthige on Monday August 15, which was organized under the aegis of Alva's Education Foundation.

Bishop of Mangaluru diocese, Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, unfurled the national flag on the occasion. Addressing the gathering, he noted that educational institutions are more sublime even as compared to prayer centres as they teach people to live in harmonious coexistence. "We can show our patriotism by discharging our duties properly. We can also serve the country by practicing cleanliness, clean water, carefully looking after public property, being law-abiding citizens,building a society free of corruption, increasing investment in the country and by contributing to economic progress of the country. We can build the country by making your youngsters strong. We should always strive to maintain invaluable freedom, which we won with hard work and sacrifice," he stressed.

Students of Alva's cultural team sang the patriotic song, 'Vande Mataram...Koti Kanthonse'. 24,000 students who had gathered in front of the dais waved the tricolour held in their hands. Colourful balloons were released on this occasion into the sky. Students wearing clothes in three colours formed pyramid on the model of Malkambh and Hulivesha.

On this occasion, students who brought laurels to Alva's, Anant G, who got first rank in CET (medical), Daksha Jain and Ashiq Narayan who got second rank in PU (commerce), and Mission Queeny D'Costa, who secured 357th rank in UPSC, were felicitated.

MLA, K Abhay Chandra Jain, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, trustees, Vivek Alva and Vinay Alva, entrepreneur, Sripati Bhat, a number of dignitaries, students and members of public participated.
