Mangaluru, Aug 16: Bajpe Royals organised ‘Freedom Ride’ bike rally at Bajpe on Monday, August 15.
The event is held every year on Indian Independence Day since 2009 with only Royal Enfield bikes allowed to participate. The rally is organised with an intention to build solidarity among all classes of people in society, across various communities irrespective of caste and religion.
The rally was flagged off by Siraj Kareem one of the veteran riders of Enfield bullet bike and Joachim D’Costa, the member of Taluk panchayat, Bajpe.
55 bikes participated in the rally this year, ranging from models as old as 1959 to the latest unregistered models. Rally started at 11am from Bajpe town and then proceeded to Airport Road Circle and after that reached back 12.30pm to Bajpe church grounds via Permude.
From 2015, the organisers have been raising funds and donating the same to the needy. They donated Rs 25,000 to 'Sneha Sadan' a home for the needy at Kaikamba.
Aslam, Nithin Shetty, Tharanath Shetty, Ganesh Acharya and Shrikanth, the active members of 'Bajpe Royals' were present among others.
‘Bajpe Royals’ wants to create awareness about safe riding, build harmony among all communities and serve the needy through charity work.
