Beltangady, Aug 17: Thieves entered Padmunje branch of Canara Bank in the taluk in an attempt to burgle cash and gold ornaments from the strong room. While they cut through the window rods of manager's cabin and sneaked into the bank, they failed to break into the strong room of the bank.
The incident came to light on Tuesday August 16 morning when bank employees arrived at the bank for work. The Bank had holiday on Monday.
The thieves took away the DVR box containing CCTV recording, and cut the wire connecting the alarm which goes off when an attempt to open the strong room is made. After being alerted by the bank staff, Puttur rural station circle inspector, Anil S Kulkarni, and Uppinangady police arrived at the branch and took up investigation. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs also scouted the area for clues.
A theft attempt case was registered in Uppinangady police station based on complaint filed by branch manager, Deepak Raj.
