Mangaluru, Aug 17: A passenger bound for Dubai was arrested after the immigration officers at Mangalore International Airport here found 26 passports of other citizens in his possession.
The accused, Abdulla Pallakkan, was arrested on Tuesday August 16.
Among the 26 passports, two are of USA nationals. None of the passports carried authorization letter.
Abdulla was about to leave for Dubai from Mangaluru by flight number 9W 532. During security check, it was found that he was illegally carrying passports of 26 people, including two USA nationals and 24 Indians. The names of the US nationals are given as Arakkal Manzoor and Manzoor Shooja.
As per the Passport Act 1967, a passport should not be sent out of any country by post. It should be in the custody of either the holder or a person authorised by the holder. As Abdulla could not produce authorization letters, he was arrested for illegally carrying the passports.
The case has been handed over to Bajpe police station for further investigation.
