Mangaluru, Aug 19: The Pandeshwar police have succeeded in arresting a person who has been accused of stealing Rs 20 lac from the storage area under the seat of a scooter that was parked behind the office of the regional transport office RTO) here sometime back.
The arrested accused happens to be Madhusudan (40), who belongs to Malaipatti village in Tiruchinapalli, Tamil Nadu. Rs 10,000 has been recovered from him.
As per reports, a person named Rajesh, who had some work in RTO had parked his scooter, after keeping Rs 20 lac cash given to him for safekeeping by someone, in the space provided below the seat, before going into the office. The incident happened on August 6 last year. When he returned, he had found that the lock of the scooter had been broken and cash had gone missing. Thereafter, a complaint was filed in Pandeshwar police station here.
city (south) station criminal intelligence sub-inspector, Anant Murudeshwar, arrested Madhusudan from the city railway station on August 17. It is said that the arrested man is a member of a gang having 13 to 15 members from "Ramoji Nagar in Tiruchinapalli district, and members of this gang specialise in executing thefts by concentrating on places where heavy cash transactions take place.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of city police commissioner, Chandra Sekhar, deputy commissioners, Shantaraju and Dr Sanjeev M Patil, as well as assistant police commissioner of city south sub-division, Shruti S S and directions of Pandeshwar police inspector, K U Belliappa.
