Udupi, Aug 19: Mother of Praveen Poojary only knows the pain of losing the son whom she carried in her womb. The son was dear to her and he was also a bread winner for the family. Local BJP leader Praveen was killed brutally by Hindu activists when he was carrying calves in his tempo. His friend was injured. Praveen’s plea to spare him was not heard by his killers. He was not even given water when he demanded to drink it, before he died.
Praveen's parents
Baby Poojarthi, Praveen's mother, speaking to the media said, “What wrong did Praveen commit by being good to people? He was into social service. He always helped people. But they killed him. The whole day he was busy distributing the invitations of Ganeshotsava and at night the death came. People from our own village killed him.
“He did not have any bad habits. He had taken a loan for the wedding of his sister Pramila. He used to work hard to clear the loan. He was planning to get married this year. They killed him after subjecting him to unbearable pain. Even if a dog is killed, people ask about it. How can they kill him like that? Who will bring him back to life?” the mother cried.
Praveen Poojary
Baby Poojarthi and her husband Vasu Poojary are small time farmers. It was a happy family of five with sons Praveen, Naveen and daughter Pramila, now married. They did not have money, but wanted to live a contented life. Now their dreams are shattered with Praveen gone forever. Praveen used to run a small chicken shop. He also ran a tempo. He used to go whenever he was called on hire.
On the day of his death too, Praveen was called by a person named Kunjur Ramesh. And he went, but never to return. At Around 9.30 pm his parents received a call from Kunjur Ramesh that Praveen was beaten up. Praveen’s parents phoned on his mobile number but the call was not received. When phoned again, an unknown person responded and said they should come to the tempo at a specified place.
“But as it was night, we could not go there till our son-in-law could take us. And we did not expect that he was in such a danger situation. We only realised that our son was no more when police came to our place.”Baby Poojarthi said with unbearable pain.
