Mangaluru, Aug 21: Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress members were detained by the police even as they were planning to stage a protest in front of Circuit House here on Sunday August 21.
BJP national president Amit Shah who arrived in the city early morning, and is presently lodged at Circuit House where he is taking rest. He is scheduled to participate in various programmes in and around the city later.
Youth Congress members initially came in small numbers but more members began joining in. Kadri police circle inspector M B Naik asked them not to protest as they did not have any permission. President of Youth Congress Mithun Rai said that they were going to protest in peaceful and democratic way.
Mithun Rai speaking to reporters said, "We are here to show black flags to Amit Shah. His party is a party of hypocrites. They talk something and do something else. It is a known fact that Praveen Poojary was killed recently by cow vigilantes in Udupi. The killers belonged to BJP and its affiliates. BJP should stop killing innocents in the name of cow protection.
"The biggest beef exporting company belongs to a BJP member of parliament. Then how can BJP should talk about beef? What moral authority does it have? We are here to ask these questions and protest in a peaceful way," Rai added.
Police who were watching the developments closely decided to detain the Youth Congress members as they sensed that the congregation of more people was a security threat. They rounded them up and took them away in two buses.
Praveen Chandra Alva and Sudatta Jain Shirthady were part of protestors.
