Kasargod, Aug 22: A jeweller was looted cash to the tune of Rs 2.70 crore at Cherkala near here and a police complain regarding the same stands registered at Vidyanagar police station.
The incident took place on August 3, but the police complaint was lodged on August 20. The complainant said that he was hopeful that he would find the money lost. Hence he took time to approach police.
Ganesh, a jeweller, was travelling from Pune to Tellicherry in his Innova car driven by Girish. When they reached a slop at Cherkala, another car hit Innova and five persons came out. They showed revolver and took away Rs 2.70 crore cash Ganesh was carrying.
Ganesh said he was carrying the cash to a jeweller in Tellicherry.
Police sources said that they are verifying facts as they have some doubts on the case. Time taken to lodge the complaint is taken seriously. They also doubt some Hawala transaction as such big amount is hardly carried with adequate security.
Police are scrutinising the calls made and received by Ganesha and Girish. They believe that this will reveal more facts about the case.
Girish will also be interrogated, police said. The case has become a mystery for police for the time being with many unanswered questions.
