Everybody is entitled to their views, says Ramya

Bengaluru, Aug 23 (Agencies): Actor-turned-politician Ramya, in response to a complaint filed against her on ''Pakistan not hell ''remark, said, she was really sad, but such is situation in the country today, according to media reports.

Speaking to media, Ramya, 33, said that everybody was entitled to their views and that's what democracy is about, you can't force your ideology on anyone.

Ramya reiterated her statement, "I respectfully disagree, Pakistan is not hell, people there are just like us".

Politicians want to polarise and spread hatred. Just because borders separate us we shouldn't hate others, Ramya Ex-Congress MP, added further.

Advocate Katnamane Vittala Gowda, who claims to be Kodagu district president of a group called ‘Prajaranga’, had filed the complaint on Monday, accusing Ramya of “insulting” Indian patriots by “praising” Pakistan.

    The Supreme Court on Wednesday slammed Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalitha for filing scores of defamation cases against political opponents, according to reports.

    The apex court said that public figure must face criticism and can't use defamation case to throttle democracy.

    So I certainly support the democratic view of Ramya. The fictitious case filed by Advocate K.Vittal Gowda should be dismissed and thrown in the dust bin. That will also show him he hasn't read the Indian Constitution well enough and bar him from legal practice for 2 years until he studies the Constitution well enough.

    Readers of the DW are extremely sensible and sensitive. Perhaps you might well be my judge. You see, way back in 1980 when in Oman, I was stuck in a desert. Luckily it was not so far from the main road that connects the city. (Al Khuwair) My Subaru four-wheeler was in the desert deep down and I could not help but walk about 1 Km. To the main road and ask for help. Few stopped but refused help, and then a lorry with few Pakistanis behind and on request they stopped. They simply volunteered enthusiastically to help me out. They towed my Subaru four-wheeler out of the trench that it made and I was made to drive and they followed me and the moment I reached the main road they sped away, saying “Brother you are safe now.” On another occasion, soon after, I was returning around 9 p.m. on an engaged taxi and the driver tried to misbehave with me. He was ferocious. In some obscure place, I spotted a guest house, the place was lonely, and I asked him, I would come in a short time, and he stopped the taxi. I ran to the guest house, as a car full of Indians approaching the guest house and I pleaded with them to reach me safely as the taxi driver was torturing me. None helped. Now you judge as to why we should point fingers at others?

    Guys, of course the whole of Pakistan may not be hell.
    But on the context for which Ramya replied is not appropriate, Defense minister quoted about Pakistan w.r.t unrest in kashmir, but Ramya responded to the statement alone by not understanding the intent of Defense minister's statement, i think that was Wrong.
    Yes, everyone should have an opinion and it has to be heard, and we live in a democratic country. but we should not blindly follow/support all statements.

    While Ramya is entitled to her opinions on any general topics, contradicting defence minister's statement in favor of enemy country is not good. It just shows the ignorance, imaturity & arrogance of Ramya. Agreed there are good people in every country & majority wil be good, what matters to our country is what political establishment of Pakistan does and they are indirectly waging war on us.
    The government has the verdict for ruling 5 years, frame foreign policies & what the government says/does is on behalf of all the people of the counrty. Whether it is right or wrong, people will decide after 5 days.

    This type of statement by only weaken India's case in international forum. She thinks by making such statements she can please certain section of audience.

    I have seen many Indians who make big noise here in India, against Pakee, are living with harmony in the middle east.

    The govt. of both countries are fooling their citizens Kashmir issue is a blank cheque for both countries politicians and they keep it boiling. Our poor soldiers are dying, so as in Pak country too.

    A good neighbor is always asset. But to have good neighbor both have to sow good seeds, live in trust, which both countries do not follow.

    Ramya’s praising and appreciating Pakistani people’s hospitality during her visit is understood and justified. It can also be considered a part of protocol. But her statement in response to what the defence minister said cannot be accepted. It’s inappropriate to contradict Mr. Parrikar’s statement since he was totally referring to terrorists infiltrating our country when he termed Pakistan as hell.

    I have interacted with quite a few paki's and they are devious. Unfortunately, this madam went there as a guest and they gave her a royal treatment. When Indira Gandhi went there, they purposely made her interact with handsome young men and made her soft towards their agenda. Same must have happened here. Ramya should have been briefed by the foreign department before she left to that country. Under the circumstances, I do not blame her.

    I think we should understand the background how the "hell" remark came initially and then Ms Ramya's comment on hell remark came.

    Our defence minister when briefing about infiltration bid which was foiled by the Indian Army, he said, “Kal humare jawano ne paanch logon (terrorists) ko wapas bhej dia, Pakistan mein jaana aur nark (hell) mein jaana ek hi hai (Our soldiers sent back five terrorists yesterday. Going to Pakistan is same as going to hell).”

    Ms Ramya or whoever in public domain should be sensitive enough while commenting when the matter or the context somewhere relates to our border or our soldiers.
    If it was a general comment but not in response to our defence minister's view it would have been a different matter.

    Let me give 2 examples:
    1. I lived and worked in Gulf with lot of Pakistanis. They have been absolutely good people with good behavior. Their customs may be slightly defferrant to Indians.
    2. If you go back to the anecdotes of 1st pak war, In Lahore border to India, Indian army were exchanging Pakistani Paratas & Biriyani for Indian film Music!

    Ramya issue is blown out of proportion. it seems like the lawyer wants to get some limelight & hence latch on to this issue. It is also wrong to deride Mr Modi Visit to Pakisthan. there is lot at stake in this connected world no matter whether you love or hate. Mr Modis vist might have been planned by NSA and other agencies for reasons which are not fully divulged. Mr Modis vist would not benefit Mr Modi or BJP electorally. infact it diminishes support from his Hard core support base. yet he gone to Pakisthan risking this.

    USA 100% knows Mr Osama Bin Laden was protected by Pakisthan. Yet they have not condemned officially against Pakisthan on this in international Fora like the UN. They continue to engage and at times pampered Pakisthan with money. This is because there are permanent national interests.

    Mr. Advani said Jinnah was secular and it was true. Jinnah wanted Pakistan to remain a secular country just like India although it will be ruled by the majority community. He didn’t want Pakistan to become an Islamic country because he feared the control will go into the hands of the Sunnis who are a majority in Pakistan.
