Mangaluru, Aug 23: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai laid foundation stone for Kaikamba market at Kaikamba and skywalk near town hall by unveiling the plaque here on Tuesday August 23.
Addressing the media persons, Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo thanked the coastal development authority president Nivedith Alva and said, “The Kaikamba market will be built at a cost of Rs 90 lacs.”
“The Skywalk will be constructed near town hall which will benefit pedestrians to cross the road. Since this place is highly crowded with traffic and pedestrians, this work has been undertaken to facilitate safety for people. The skywalk will have escalator. The skywalk will cost Rs 1.57 crore, out of which Rs 7 lac will be borne by MCC, 78 lacs by Coastal development authority and other Rs 71 lacs by MUDA. The work is expected to be completed in next 12 months,” he said.
District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said, “Mangaluru is the fastest growing city in state after Bengaluru. Mangaluru south has set an example wherein the MLA and city corporation have worked together to develop city. J R Lobo by getting funds from various departments has helped the people of this region. I thank Nivedith Alva for giving maximum funds to Dakshina Kannada district. City Corporation should construct such skywalks wherever it is necessary.”
Speaking on the occasion, Coastal development authority president Nivedith Alva said, “In the past 21 months, under the leadership of Siddaramaiah led-state government, the authority has been given Rs 25 crore funds to undertake various works. About 19 constituencies come under my authority and I have given projects to all the 19 constituencies. Only after inspecting the spot I have sanctioned this skywalk.”
MCC opposition leader Roopa D Bangera, MCC commissioner Nazeer, Shashidar Hegde, Denis D'Silva and others were present.
