Mangaluru, Aug 24: City crime branch (CCB) police have arrested five accused relating to the murder of Charan at Vamanjur here on August 19.
The arrested accused are, Muhammed Rizwan (28), a resident of Moodushedde Shivanagara, Muhammed Raheef (19) from Vamanjur Kelarai Kody, Muhammed Shah Rukh (20), a resident of Moodushedde, Muhammed Mustafa (19) , also from Moodushedde, and Nawaz (23) from Gurpur.

The accused were taken into custody from near the old toll gate at Panemangalore on the morning of Tuesday August 23. Muhammed Rizwan, one of the accused, and Charan, had a long-standing enmity. A case was also registered relating to this hatred in Kavoor police station. The theory of the police is that Rizwan, in association with the other accused named above, murdered Charan in order to settle old score.
Rizwan already faces a case of robbery in Kollur police station, it is learnt. Police also said that Raheef faces a case of motor bike theft registered in the city (north) police station.
Charan was moving in an auto rickshaw along with his wife and child when the accused, who were travelling in a black colour Mahindra Bolero vehicle, got down and rushed towards the auto rickshaw near a petrol bunk near Vamanjur Junction. Although Charan, expecting trouble, got down from the auto rickshaw and started running, Rizwan and others who followed him, hacked him to death with sharp weapons. Charan, who had suffered grave injuries, had died in a hospital later.
The arrests were made by a police team led by CCB inspector, Sunil Y Naik, and police sub-inspector, Shyamsundar. The rural police here have taken over the Bolero vehicle used for the murder and also the arrested accused for further action.
