Mangaluru, Aug 24:"Mangaluru South police arrested noted criminals Monkey Stand Vijay alias Vijaya and his associates Melric D' Souza and Praveen alias Chotu in connection with murder attempt of Marnamikatte Sandeep Shetty on May 16 near Marnamikatte Rickshaw Park," said police commissioner Chandra Sekhar.
He was addressing the press meet at his office here on Wednesday August 24.
He also said that accused were arrested on the night of Tuesday August 23 from Raibag near Belgaum. Related to murder attempt of Sandeep Shetty police had already arrested Nikhil Shetty alias Yeli, Annayya alias Annu, Dhanaraj alias Dhanu, Abhishek and Sampath Bangera and they were produced in the court.
After the incident main accused Monkey Stand Vijay, Melric D' Souza and Praveen were absconding. It is also said that all three were employed in Sugar factory in Raibag.
Under direction of Mangalore Police ACP Shruthi NS, police Inspector Beliappa KU, Mohammed Sharif, PSI Ananth Murdeshwar, ASI Krishna, Police staffs Gangadhar, Shekar Gatti, Vishwanath, Dhananjay, Satyanarayana, Pradeep Kumar Rai, Nuthan Kumar, Vinod, Siddharth, Praveen Shetty, Chandrashekar, Sunil Kumar, Purushotham, Bheemappa Uppara, Veeresh and Manoj Kumar and Sunil Praveen helped in the investigation to trace the accused.
Police team will be awarded with Rs 10,000 cash and commendation certificate, Chandra Shekar said.
He also said “Accused Monkey Stand Vijaya has 16 cases including murder, attempt to murder, rioting and robbery against him while Melric has 5 cases and Praveen has 3 cases. Proper action will also taken against those helped the culprits to abscond and provided financial assistance to them."
Mobile tower battery thieves arrested
Mangaluru rural police arrested Ganesh of Madikeri, Mohammed Rashid of Kunjathur Manjeshwar, Sunil of Malooru, Prathap of Bajal and Avinash of Moodushedde from bus stand near Nandini milk dairy in Kulshekar, on Tuesday August 23. And police also confiscated mobile tower batteries, a Maruti Omni car and a Tata Sumo total worth of RS 15 lac from them, the police commissioner said.
“The accused were involved in the mobile tower battery thefts in and around the city. Total 9 cases were registered against them involving mobile tower battery thefts. 8 cases were registered at Mangaluru police limits and 1 in the limits of Dakshina Kannada police.” he added.
Arrest were made under the direction of ACP Shruthi and Mangaluru rural police inspector Mohammed Sharif Ravuthar, PSI Sudhakar, PSI Venkatesh and staffs HC Subhaschandra, Mohan, Sudhakar Rao, Chandrashekar Acharya, Melwyn Pinto, Jushal Hegde, Manjunath N and Sharanappa Kaali were in the team.
Social disharmony
The police commissioner also warned that whoever tries to create social disharmony, especially through social media as it is a norm these days, will be strictly dealt with. He said already three persons have been booked under IPC 505 for this offence. He said police will either take Suo Moto action or through the complaint lodged to deal with the crime of creating social disharmony.
