Udupi: Hardware Shop Gutted in Fire; Insurance Scam?

Udupi/Padubidri, Dec 7: Some miscreants have set ablaze a building, located opposite of Kaup old police station on Thursday, December 6 early morning, while the hardware stock worth Rs 3 lacs has been gutted in the fire, a shop keeper of hardware store complained to Kaup police.  The incident has caused wide spread doubt. 

Abdul Ahad Sheikh Ahmed, the proprietor of Shan Trading Company, located in Kaup town, seems to have stored hardware materials in his own building, situated opposite of old Kaup police station.  He has locked the store on Wednesday, December 5 at 7-30 a m. However, when he arrived at 8 – 30 a m to take some of the stock from the store, he noticed the flames engulfing from the top floor which was extinguished with the help of neighbours.


Suspicion hovers over the incident:

Jawad Hassan, son of the proprietor seems to have been changing his statement related to fire caused the suspicions on the entire episode.  He has reportedly informed the police that Rs 3 lacs worth of hardware stocks were gutted in the fire while he stated the media persons that Rs 4.  However, there was no trace of such damage was found on the spot.  All that visible was few planks were found to be gutted in fire.  It was significant to note that the cob webs located close to fire spot was found to be in tact, raises the doubts over the whole episode.  He seems to have giving contradictory statements on the quantity of stocks stored at the premises. 



The truth behind the fire would be revealed when the police subject Jawad Hassan for heavy interrogation, stated the sources.

Kala Krishnaswamy, Kaup assistant sub-inspector has registered a case in this regard and initiated the probe.
