Seven more Russian paralympians to ask IPC to lift Rio Games ban

Moscow, Aug 28 (IANS): Seven more Russian para-athletes propose to write to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) asking to be allowed to participate in the upcoming Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the athletes' lawyer Artem Patsev has said.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Tuesday rejected the Russian Paralympic Committee's (RPC) appeal against the ban on its participation in the September 7-18 Rio Paralympics, reports Sputnik.

"Seven people are now preparing the documents, and they will send letters to the International Paralympic Committee," Patsev told R-Sport on Saturday.

He added that 23 Russian paralympic athletes had already sent such letters to the IPC that, in turn, promised to respond early next week.

Last month, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) urged IPC to suspend Russia from the Paralympic Games following a report of its independent commission.

The report said Russia had run a state-controlled doping programme. Earlier in August, the IPC imposed a blanket ban on the Russian paralympic team.
