Rains, landslides block Jammu-Srinagar highway

Jammu, Sep 1 (IANS): Incessant rains and landslides on Thursday blocked the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, authorities said.

A senior traffic department official told IANS that overnight rains triggered lanslides in Khari area of the highway in Udhampur district.

"Several vehicles are stranded in the landslide hit area of the highway. Efforts are on to clear the highway," the official said.

"Men and machinery employed in building the Chenani tunnel on the highway have also been pressed into service to clear the highway," he added.
