Bengaluru, Sep 1: A prisoner lodged in Parapanna Agrahara jail escaped unnoticed, leaving security staff red-faced, on Tuesday August 30. The person who fled happens to be Arya alias David, who was confined in this jail after having been convicted of theft since the last three years.
The additional inspector general of police (prisons), Veerabhadraswamy, has suspended seven police personnel in connection with this incident for dereliction of duty.
David fled in a van which had brought vegetables from the open air jail of Koramangala in Devanahalli taluk. His filmy escape was recorded by CCTV cameras, it is gathered. David had recently been treated as the prison's hospital for sickness. He also was attended to at NIMHANS for psychological problems. He had been carefully collecting details about arrival of vegetables truck and had planned his escape, it is gathered. Although he ran away on Tuesday morning, it came to the notice of officials when taking attendance of prisoners in the evening.
When the van with vegetables came for delivery, David got into it and hid in a gunny bag, it is learnt. Although the security staff at the main gate are expected to conduct detailed checks when vehicles move out, they failed to do this, as vegetable truck came there everyday. When the driver stopped vehicle outside the gate and returned to sign the register, David got down and ran away.
David was sentenced for four years imprisonment, and had only a year more to complete his jail sentence, it is gathered.
