Son Declares Mother Dead to Sell her Property

Raipur, Dec 10: Sounds bizarre, but Purshotam, 47, of Chhattisgarh, declared his mother dead only so as to sell a piece of land owned by the woman!

The 68-year-old widow, still alive, has registered an FIR against her only son alleging that Purshotam had struck a deal for her land after acquiring her fake death certificate from municipal authorities, the police said on Monday.

"Purshotam had misinformed Rajnandgaon Municipal Corporation that his mother Firanteen Bai had died," Shyamsundar Sharma, in charge of the police station, said.

Purshotam, of Tekardahi area in Rajnandgaon city, 110 km west of here, was about to sell his mother's land measuring one acre.

The police in charge said that Firanteen Bai had been working as a maid since her drunkard son forced her to abandon her house almost 18 months back.

"The poor woman appeared before the police on Saturday and registered an FIR against her son," said Sharma.

The police have been conducting raids to arrest Purshotam, who is missing.
