Delhi Dynamos sign ex-Real Madrid & Celta Vigo defender Ruben


New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS): Delhi Dynamos on Saturday announced the signing of former Celta Vigo and Real Madrid defender Ruben Gonzalez as their second marquee footballer for the third edition of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL).

Ruben was part of the Real Madrid squad that won the Champions League in 2001-2002 and he then went on to win the Spanish La Liga in 2002-2003. He played more than 70 matches for Celta.

On signing for Delhi Dynamos FC, 34-year-old Ruben said: "I am really excited to join Delhi Dynamos, having played for most of my career in Spain and Germany, I am looking forward to playing in Asia for the first time."

Speaking on Ruben's signing, Dynamos Head Coach Gianluca Zambrotta said: "We are glad to have Ruben Gonzalez in our team. He will strengthen our defence and he will definitely be one of the leaders on and off the pitch for the club.

The experienced defender has immense experience in Spanish club football, making over 200 appearances playing at clubs like Racing Santander, Mallorca, Ossasuna, amongst others. 

The latest signing joins Delhi Dynamos after two seasons of regular football at Real Zaragoza.

Ruben will be in the Delhi Dynamos F.C. squad for the charity friendly match being played against West Bromwich Albion F.C. at the Hawthorns later on Saturday.
