Cong dares Modi to publish White Paper on economic situation

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) : Virtually daring the Prime Minister, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said the government should publish the contemplated White Paper on the economic situation in the country before the Narendra Modi dispensation presented its first budget in 2014.

"Govt should publish the contemplated White Paper. Before they withdraw the Economic Survey of 2014-15."

"Also withdraw RBI Annual Report and CSO Report for 2014-15. They will be non-White Papers!", the senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP said in a series of tweets.

The response of Chidambaram, who was the Finance Minister when the UPA went out of power in May 2014, came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in an interview that he wanted to bring a White Paper before his government presented its first budget but opted against it in the national interest, even at the risk of political damage.

"...I think, before presenting the first budget, I should have placed a White Paper in Parliament on the economic situation in the country. This thought had come to me," Modi said an interview to CNN News18.

Senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma also sought to dismiss the Prime Minister's claim. He had yesterday said the Prime Minister had participated in an interview the questions and answers of which appeared to be "prepared by the PMO."

Accusing the Prime Minister of "misleading" the nation by targeting previous government on the economic situation, he told reporters "UPA had left a stable economy. Forex reserves were USD 300 billion. National income grew three-fold. Nearly 14 crore people came out of poverty".

Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, he said Modi knows "very little" about the economic situation in India.

"Indeed, it seems that people are circumspect to give him the real picture."
Seeking to puncture government's claims, he said the fact is that the economy is in a "worrying situation" with key parameters like National Saving Rate and National Investment Rate having fallen.

"After being in power for 27 months, these excuses are not expected. Instead of making comments on the previous Government, Modiji should instead talk about all of his electoral promises which have remained unfulfilled," Sharma said insisting that during the UPA term, GDP increased four-fold in 10 years.

He challenged the government to come out with a White Paper to tell the country about falling investment rate, falling manufacturing, non creation of new capacities, gross capital formation falling in double digits, job loss and fall in exports.

Economic growth and GDP rating, mere story telling.

Crude oil price in June 2014 was $ 115.00/bl, now less than $ 45.00/bl, how much discount is given to the Indian consumers? Petroleum business is the largest business of the current Government.

How many industries have started through FDI? How much increase in export other than beef export?

Borrowing from the Banks is declining by the consumers. The salary level and the job creation of the private sector are declining which shows the economy is not growing but slowing down.
The white paper will be filled with stories.

India is a country of mass hysteria and people who place emotions before logic.Media misused Hazare movement for TRP which resulted in India’s decline and public unrest. Now BJP knows exactly what people of India want - Mass hysteria. They have created hypes which never actually got implemented.

Take the GST bill for example. This was stalled by BJP for so long and considered fit and passed when BJP came to power. Do indians consider this fair ? Yes !

Most Indian voters can easily fooled and their intelligence can be hijacked by Whatsapp Facebook messages, pictures and videos that may not be true at all. but people will believe it.

when BJP took action on Yedurappa in Karnataka on the basis of the charges of corruption it lost. If it brings Yedurappa back, BJP could win again. Showing how major Indian voters are not reliable enough to vote for the right person - how they don't have the understanding to make the right and fair choice.

When Subramanian swamy can dictate the economic policy the answer is self explanatory.

Be it a high food price, declining forex and Indian Rupee against Dollar India has forgiven BJP which they used to blame Congress.

"manipulated economic data" can't feed the citizens of India.Reality is different than virtual world.

When citizens started realising how their saving vanish it will be too late.

BJP & RSS are experts in spreading falsehood. They use every opportunity to market themselves as hero's.

Other day there was headlines telling Modi saves journalist's from raging water. When one watches the footage even the camera left alone near the side does not even tilt.

The bottom line is if there is anything BJP or RSS says take it for granted it is a lie. The only exception is sus.hma swaraj, in this feku toli.

Modi is Ambani's model...and is in his pocket...

But CONgress people are corrupt to the core...they should publish white paper on all scams they did from 2004-2014....Then they will know why people rejected them completely and gave them 44 seats out of 540 seats in 2014...

This white paper will help CONgress in their soul searching...if they indeed have a soul...

Best solution for people of India is to defeat both these corrupt parties CONgress and BJP in 2019 elections...

I too feel that the interview was stage managed. I got this feeling, willy nilly, when I heard the interview. CNBC is the one which spearheaded this interview. This channel is owned by Reliance and everyone knows the extent to which Reliance and Modi are connected.

    Shankar Anna,

If it known to be suicidal, why talk about it and blame the past on failures of current economical policies.

Last 27 months have been only blame game and BJP never taken reasonability of finances and owning economy conditions.

Modi should try to exhibit positive attitude and regularly provide explanation on exact economical scenario with supporting facts so that business environment is well understood.

As of now, BJP has never demonstrated ownership of finances and only blamed others for their errors and omissions.

Yes, agree that "Fools ain't got brains!!" which is shown on daily basis by Feku and his followers.
