New Delhi, Dec 11(mb): An unidentified youth became the 113th victim of the capital's notorious 'killer' buses in 2007, after he was crushed by a private Blueline bus Monday evening near Delhi University campus, police said.
According to police, the youth, in his early 20s, was boarding a bus plying on route No. 816 between Uttam Nagar and Badarpur but fell when the driver Ranjan Lal, 32, suddenly speeded up.
"He lost his balance and fell off from the bus. His head was crushed under its rear wheels. He died on the spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) Devesh Srivastava said.
"We have arrested Lal and bus has been impounded," Srivastava added.
Police could not identify the deceased till late Monday.
The 4,000-strong Blueline bus fleet, which forms a crucial part of Delhi's public transport system, has earned public ire for the recklessness of its drivers and owners but officials say they are helpless to check the menace.
