Mangalore, Dec12: South Kanara District Chess Association (SKDCA), affiliated to united Karnataka Chess Association, Bangalore, will organize First Mangalore State Open Fide Rated Chess Tournament at Karnataka Bank Auditorium, Kodialbail here from Saturday January 5 to Wednesday January 9, informed GS Gururaj, president SKDCA at press conference here on Wednesday December 12.
He further said that around 200 competitors are expected to participate in the event. All the out station fide rated players will be given free accommodation and food, but if any one wants room then they will have to pay Rs 75 per day, he informed.
The association is aiming at contributing at least fifty "chess-genius" through the tournament in order to make India noticeable in the map of chess, he added.
The total cash fund for the tournament will be Rs 60,000. IMs, WIMs, FMs and above 2300 fide rating will be entitled for free entry, he said. Whereas the rated players other than Dakshina Kannada district have to pay the token amount of Rs 300 and unrated players have to pay Rs 400, he added.
The rated players from Dakshina Kannada district have to pay Rs 250 and unrated players have to pay Rs 350, he informed.
The primary aim of organizing the event is to encourage the upcoming players and to get rated by the concerned authorities and make themselves identified in the game, he said. The first place comprises of Rs 15,000 along with a trophy, runner up gets Rs 9,000 and the third place consists of Rs 5,000, he elaborated.
Entries must reach the association on or before Friday December 28 with out any penalty, and on or before Wednesday January 2 with the penalty of Rs 150, he detailed.
MS Vassantha Lakshmi, treasurer, Praveen Mayya, vice-president, Prateeba Ranjan and Gopinath, joint secretaries were present at the press conference.
