Mangalore, Dec 13: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) would launch indefinite strike from Sunday December 16 demanding release of grants to gram panchayats, bringing all gram panchayat workers under the fold of provident fund and implementing the minimum wages to all the workers of gram panchayats, said K Yadav Shetty, president, Karnataka State Gram Panchayat Employees' Association (CITU) here at the press conference on Thursday December 13.
Gram panchayats must be released Rs 5 lac in order to pay to the gram panchayat workers. But the grants should be increased to Rs 25 lac. The workers must be entitled to 60% of the increments and gratuity in the purview of life insurance. A nodal officer must be appointed for Janashree Scheme, he demanded. The workers of gram panchayats have not been treated as government employees, it should not continue, he added.
