Udupi, Dec 14: Those who made it big from the State should be called upon to contribute for the development of Kannada, said Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, M Veerappa Moily.
He was delivering the presidential address at a seminar on ‘Demand for classical language status to Kannada’ organised on the second day of the 74th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, here on Thursday.
As soon as Moily started speaking on classical language status, a section from the audience demanded a clear answer from him. In reply, Moily said: “Nothing can be done by giving speeches. An action plan is needed.”
He said that based on the report submitted by the committee comprising Prof L S Sheshagiri Rao, Prof Chidanandamoorthy and Raj Purohith, six months ago, the chief of the Centre for Languages had been instructed to expedite the issue of classical status for Kannada.
“A favourable decision will be taken in a few months. It is not a political decision. Classical status for Kannada is Karnataka's right,” Moily added.
